Enterprise Security Company Illumio Expands Into APAC With New Regional Office In Sydney

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – March 7, 2018Illumio has announced 300 percent year-over-year bookings growth during its third year in the market, adding customers from a broad range of industries including banking, insurance, technology, legal, retail, and government. The rapid growth is being driven by organisations that are increasingly turning to Illumio to prevent the spread of threats inside their data centres and cloud environments, as well as meet regulatory compliance standards, such as SWIFT, PCI, GDPR, and HITRUST.

The ability of bad actors to move freely inside data centres and the cloud has been a known security issue for more than a decade. Illumio's adaptive micro-segmentation technology prevents the spread of cyber threats by giving organizations the ability to create 'watertight compartments' across their data centre and cloud environments. The demand for micro-segmentation technology is growing rapidly, with available market data showing it to be worth well over $3 billion per annum.

Following significant interest from financial institutions in Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, Illumio has also announced the opening of its Asia Pacific operations with regional headquarters in Sydney, Australia. The office will be headed by industry veteran, Rob van Es, who joined the company as Illumio’s Vice President of Asia Pacific.

Mr van Es said Illumio’s growth plans for the APAC region would initially focus on Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

“We have nearly 100 customers today. While the first companies to take advantage of our technology were large, highly regulated industries – such as financial institutions and global SaaS companies – the market is maturing, and we are increasingly seeing interest from mid-sized companies,” he said. “The need to secure the inside of data centres and cloud environments applies to all industries  – it’s an issue that all types of organization is facing.”

Andrew Rubin, CEO and co-founder of Illumio, said the company was uniquely suited to address the needs of large and small organizations as they shift investment towards preventing cyber threats inside their data centres and cloud environments.

“Our continued rapid growth underscores that micro-segmentation is fast becoming foundational cybersecurity for the world’s leading organizations and that Illumio is positioned as the innovative leader during the market’s massive expansion,” he said.
